Description:

Role purpose:
?Strong chemical engineer with experience of chemical manufacture.
?Good knowledge of, and/or willingness to learn, science of biological treatment processes and application to solve practical problems.
?Good knowledge of, and/or willingness to learn, physical waste treatment processes
(e.g. carbon treatment) and application to solve practical problems.
?Good knowledge of, and/or willingness to learn, underlying theory of chemical waste treatment processes and application to solve practical problems.

Accountabilities:
?Conducts lab studies to develop, modify, optimize waste treatment and environmental remediation processes.
?Willing to try new approaches to solve problems.
?Take the lead in developing and applying technologies to support new, major business opportunities. Define projects to meet business needs, future trends and regulations in manufacturing.
?Ensure compliance with all government regulations and Syngenta HS&E policies.

Critical success factors & key challenges:
?Must establish a role as a key contributor to the PTES Must Win strategy
?Provide technical support on NAFTA manufacturing
?Provide technical support on Global manufacturing

Critical knowledge:
?Good knowledge of, and/or willingness to learn:
-biological treatment processes
omicrobiology related to biological waste treatment
-control biotreater conditions to achieve desired reduction of target compounds
-biodegradability of waste streams
oexplores options to enhance biodegradability
-works with manufacturing sites to assist them with lab tests and results interpretation
?Knowledge of EPA regulations.

Critical experience:
?MS or PhD in Chemical Engineering or Environmental Engineering & Science, with a minimum 5 years experience in waste treatment processes.
?Hands on experience of experimental studies.
?Experience with chemical process and unit operations.
Critical technical, professional and personal capabilities
?Excellent communication, organizational and time management skills. Strong interpersonal skills. Take initiative and exercise good judgment. Ability to lead decision-making.
?Proactively work with other functions involved in production and global supply. Ability to interact with cross-functional teams on both technical and business level. Ability to operate in a matrix organization; interact and influence senior stakeholders.
