Pasadena Audubon Societys mission is to bring the excitement of birds to our community through birding, education, and the conservation of bird habitats. In 2019, we created a Native Habitat Garden at Washington Elementary STEM Magnet school (WESM) in Northwest Pasadena. The garden features California native plants that attract birds and pollinators, an outdoor classroom, solar fountains and a rainwater garden with bioswales. The garden fills a large courtyard at the school and provides students with ample outdoor learning opportunities while providing habitat for native species of birds and insects. The Native Habitat Garden is an extension of Pasadena Audubons innovative Bird Science Program, whose goal is to get students excited about the environment, conservation and birds.
